This week, The Annex sits down with Aliza Luft of UCLA.  Aliza authored the 2015 Sociological Theory article, “Toward a Dynamic THeory of Action at the Micro Level of Genocide: Killing, Desistance, and Saving in 1994 Rwanda”  We discuss our conceptions of violence perpetration and the social factors that drive the choice to commit or fight violence during breakdowns in order.  We also discuss the wisdom of advising 60 hour work weeks to graduate students, and sexual harassment among graduate students.

Aliza Luft is an Assistant Professor in UCLA. Her research focuses on ethnic, racial, and religious boundary processes, gender, high-risk mobilization, and the causes and consequences of violence.
